It is co-funded from the National Centre for Research and Development under the 2nd Applied Research Programme Competition (Program Badań Stosowanych)
Under this Project was founded the WOŚ Test Station using leachate stream after the filtration presses which dewater sewage sludge. The objective of the research is a comprehensive solution of the nitrogen problem at the wastewater treatment plant, i.e. developing technological solutions in order to ensure an economic, stable and appropriately low level of total nitrogen in treated wastewater.
The Test Station includes the Sequence Biological Reactors (SBR) for biological processes as well as the physicochemical separation systems and a laboratory making analyses during testing. The equipment of the Test Station allows the wastewater treatment plant to carry out 3 essential tasks:
- Examination of the possibility to cultivate nitrifying bacteria used to remove nitrogen
- Examination of the possibility to carry out the anammox process
- Carrying out the membrane separation and ion exchange processes.
In its upper part, i.e. within the process reactors the Station is operating on leachate from filtration presses. For this purpose leachate from filtration presses are directed to retention tanks from which it is taken to SBRs, where after appropriate technological regime it is treated using the activated sludge method. Here are performed tests related to the cultivation of nitrificants and the anammox process. Then treated leachate is directed to tanks from where it goes to devices carrying out the microfiltration process. Leachate treated in this way is transported to the lower part of the station where further treatment takes place using the membrane separation and ion exchange processes.
The test results of the WOŚ Test Station will be used for simulation testing in a mathematical model created for this purpose. It will give reply to the question, which of the proposed / tested solutions is the most advantageous in technological and economic terms.
