On 28 June 2013 MPWiK S.A. signed an agreement to receive co-financing of the Project „Improvement of water and wastewater management in Wrocław – Stage IV” No. POIS.01.01.00-00-341/12-00 under the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment, Priority Axis I – Water and wastewater management, Action 1.1 – water and wastewater management in agglomerations with population more than 15 thousand PE.
Stage IV is a follow-up to the previous stages of this Project.
The main purpose of the Project is a comprehensive arrangement of water and wastewater management in Wrocław. The measures under the Project aim shall contribute to the liquidation of deficiencies in the wastewater system in Wrocław and to the limitation of contamination of surface water and groundwater. Development of sewage network and increasing the level of wastewater system availability in Wrocław will contribute to meeting the requirements of the Directive 91/271/EWG concerning urban waste-water treatment.
Stage IV covers the construction of approx. 46 km sanitary sewage system in the territory of the city of Wrocław.
The total value of the Project amounts to 71 283 690,33 PLN.
The co-funding amounts to 35 534 854,86 PLN, what represents 85 % of the total value of Project eligble expenses.
The Project is to be completed in 2016.

Some words about… the Cohesion Fund
The Cohesion Fund was established on the basis of the Maastricht Treaty on European Union in 1991, which came in force in 1993. The Cohesion Fund was created to reduce the gap in the level of economic and social development of the countries and regions of the European Union. The underlying aim of the Fund is to strengthen economic and social cohesion within the European Union by funding large projects forming a coherent whole in the field of environmental protection and transport infrastructure.
The premise for the performance of the Cohesion Fund projects in the environment sector is adapting the existing facilities to the European standards, as well as the construction of new elements improving the natural environment.

Some words about the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment
By the Decision of 7 December 2007 the European Commission approved the Infrastructure and Environment Programme for the years 2007- 2013.
Under the programme are implemented major infrastructure investments in the field of the environmental protection, transport, energy, culture, i national heritage, health protection and higher education
The purpose of the programme is to improve investment attractiveness of Poland and its regions through the development of technical infrastructure, combined with protection and improvement of the environment and health, fostering cultural identity and developing territorial cohesion. In accordance with the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) approved by the European Commission on 7 May 2007 the Programme represents a primary tool to achieve the objectives set forth in the NSRF, using funding from the Cohesion Fund and the European Regional Development Fund.
